Singapore: Malcolm Ting Siong Hung and Inez Ng Xin Yi claimed top honours in the 11th Warren-Uniforce Amateur Open.

While 20-year-old Malaysian Ting won the Men’s Division, 19-year-old Ng, making the most of local knowledge at her home club, topped the standings in the Ladies’ Division.

A total of 77 players from 13 countries – Australia, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa and Thailand – competed in the World Amateur Golf Ranking event at Singapore’s Warren Golf & Country Club.

Ting, who hails from Sarawak, was a model of consistency throughout. After setting off with a 72, he took command with a four-under 67 on day two.

Although he dropped a shot on the opening hole of the final-round, an eagle-three at the long second settled any nerves. He went on to post a one-under 70 for a three-day total of four-under 209.

Second place went to Australian Abel Eduard on 213 with Malaysian Muhammad Nasrullah Bin Zulkilfi a further stroke back in third. The leading Singapore male was Daryl Low in fifth on 218.

Three shots off the pace being set by her Southeast Asian Games team-mate Hailey Loh heading into the final round, Ng fired a closing three-under-par 68 that included five birdies against two bogeys.

That gave her a 54-hole aggregate of three-under 210 and a two-shot winning margin from Loh, who signed off with 73. The victory followed her success in the National Golf Association of the Philippines’ Riviera Open a fortnight ago.

Ng and Loh were the only players to finish in red figures with Yu Shang a distant third on 222. The leading overseas female was Hong Kong’s Kitty Tam in sixth on 231.
