Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup Archive

A high-profile professional championship that is co-sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour Organisation and the Asian Tour, the Diamond Cup dates back to 1969 and is steeped in history. The Japan Golf Association (JGA) has been the one constant as the tournament has evolved through a plethora of guises, title-sponsorships, mergers, reincarnations and partnerships, remaining as one of the JGA’s four National Championships, alongside the Japan Open, Japan Women’s Open and Japan Senior Open. Adding to its prestige and kudos, the Diamond Cup was recognised by The R&A in 2019 with the enticement of an invitation to the champion to compete in The Open. Each year, the JGA allocates 10 spots in the Diamond Cup starting field to the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation. Traditionally, these exemptions have been offered to the region’s leading amateur golfers.
