Shenzhen, China: More than three dozen students from universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area competed in Mission Hills’ inaugural Greater Bay Area Varsity Golf Hero Tournament.
The two-day tournament featured representatives from Shenzhen University, Sun Yat-sen University, Jinan University, Guangzhou Sport University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Zhuhai College of Jilin University.
Among them were college students who study abroad but have returned home to the Greater Bay Area amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tenniel Chu, Vice-Chairman of Mission Hills Group, said one of the primary aims of the Greater Bay Area Varsity Golf Hero Tournament was to foster greater exchange between youths within the Greater Bay Area, using golf as a common platform.
He said: “Golf is an excellent sport that showcases youth vitality, which is why we chose to launch a new tournament specifically targeted at varsity students. It is our aim to attract more young college students to join in the sport, as we build on this platform to enrich exchanges within the Greater Bay Area. By doing so, we also hope to further popularise the sport and take golf developments to new heights in the region and beyond.”
Jiang Haoyu was crowned inaugural champion, edging out fellow Shenzhen University student Huang Jiapei on a countback after both players returned 36-hole totals of 151 over the Els Course at Mission Hills Shenzhen.
Three strokes adrift in third place was Zhuo Tianwei, while Macau’s Ning Yuan and Ning Wang clinched the top two positions in the nett category.
Hosted by Mission Hills Group and jointly promoted by DZ Sports, the tournament was open to all full-time under-graduates and graduate students within the Greater Bay Area.
