New Orleans, United States: Cameron Smith, Titleist Brand Ambassador and former Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) participant, has claimed his third PGA Tour victory.
Smith teamed up with fellow-Australian Marc Leishman to emerge victorious following a sudden-death play-off at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Smith, who tied for seventh in the 2012 AAC at Bangkok’s Amata Spring Country Club, had the distinction of holing the winning putt in New Orleans.
“It was a really cool week and we played some solid golf. The back nine was tough, but we hung in there and got it done,” said Smith, who played a new Pro V1x golf ball, TSi3 driver and bag full of Titleist equipment.
An International Team representative in the Presidents Cup, Smith’s latest success has seen him climb to third in the FedEx Cup standings and secured him his PGA Tour card through the 2022-2023 season.
He also earns a berth in the 2021 PGA Championship and a spot in the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions while placing himself in good position for Olympic qualification. “I definitely want to be there in Japan and want to wear the green and gold as much as I can,” said Smith.
Of the new Pro V1x ball, Smith said: “I think the biggest thing for me is the cover and the stickiness it gives me around the greens. I feel as though I can hit a lot of different scoring shots into and around the green.
“For me, when I tested it, it was a bit hotter off the driver, which was great. The windows were great. The spin was still the same. The irons were basically the same, which I love.
“But for me, the biggest thing that stuck out was the control coming out of the rough and around the greens. Inside 40-50 yards, I feel as though I can control my shots, especially those difficult, soft shots, so much better with that new cover they’ve got on there.”
