Singapore: China’s Eric Chen Lixuan and Korean Min Yi-soo took centre stage with accomplished winning performances in the 31st Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) Junior Invitational Golf Championship (JIGC).
With rounds of 69, 69 and a closing one-under-par 71 over the SICC’s historic Bukit Course, Chen swept to a seven-stroke success from Korean Park Jun-won in the Boys’ Division.
It was a closer contest in the Girls’ Division with Min compiling scores of 72, 72 and a final-round 74 to edge Singaporean Chloe Ng by one stroke.
Reflecting on his wire-to-wire triumph, Chen said: “Winning the SICC Junior Invitational means a lot to me. The course was challenging, and staying consistent over three rounds was key. I’m grateful for the experience and the opportunity to compete against such strong international players.”
Min expressed similar sentiments. She said: “This championship tested every part of my game. I focused on staying patient and trusting my process. Competing here at SICC has been a wonderful experience, and I’m very thankful for the support.”
The championship brought together 67 elite junior golfers from 14 countries and territories, competing across three days of stroke play in both Boys’ and Girls’ divisions. The event showcased outstanding talent, composure under pressure, and the competitive spirit that has defined the championship for more than three decades.
Sanctioned by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) and recognised as a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) counting event, the JIGC remains a cornerstone of the junior golf calendar and a launch-pad for future champions.
Ian Roberts, SICC General Manager, said: “The JIGC represents SICC’s commitment to the future of golf, where talent is tested, values are shaped, and aspirations are strengthened in a world-class championship environment. We are proud of the standard of play demonstrated this week and grateful to Charles Schwab for supporting a tournament that provides young golfers with meaningful exposure and a pathway to higher levels of the sport.”
Greg Baker, Managing Director, APAC, Charles Schwab Singapore: said: “At Charles Schwab, we believe in investing in potential and supporting communities where ambition and discipline are built over time. The Junior Invitational brings together promising talent and the right environment for development.
"It is a competition with purpose and an experience that can shape future journeys, and we are pleased to have partnered SICC in championing junior golf through this important tournament.”
SICC Club Captain Lam Zhiqun said: “The Junior Invitational is one of the club’s most significant sporting traditions, and it reflects the spirit of excellence and sportsmanship we stand for. We congratulate all participants for competing with determination and respect, and we thank our partners, volunteers, officials, and families for contributing to a tournament experience that is both professional and meaningful.”
As the JIGC continues to evolve and strengthen its role in regional junior golf development, SICC has confirmed that next year’s championship will be held from June 16-18.
A SICC spokesperson said the shift to June will better align with seasonal playing conditions and support travel planning for families and overseas participants, while sustaining the tournament’s strong international participation and competitive standing.
