Singapore: Aryan Roopa Anand has successfully defended his All-India Amateur trophy.

In a thrilling finale, Anand defeated Yuvraj Singh at the 37th hole at Poona Golf Club in Pune.

Anand, who missed the half-way cut in last month’s Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Dubai, is the first player in 10 years to win back-to-back All-India Amateur titles.

Thanks to his latest triumph, Anand has jumped 108 positions to 440th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Singh also is heading in the right direction, 118 places better off in 603rd.

In the women’s rankings it was a profitable week for the Chinese-Taipei duo of Huang Ting-hsuan and Vivian Chen.

Both have attained personal best positions on the WAGR after sharing the spoils in the National Winter Tournament at Palm Lakes Resort in their homeland. They were declared joint winners after finishing seven shots clear of the field on 285 totals.

Huang finished with a 66 to Chen’s 69 to make up a three-shot overnight deficit. It was Huang’s third victory in her last four starts, a streak that includes 11th place last time out in the 2021 WPG Ladies Open on the Taipei Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour.

Huang jumped to a high of 135th with that performance. She makes a further two-ranking rise to 133rd this week. Chen climbs 58 positions to 497th.

Also on the rise is China’s An Tong, who reached a personal best ranking of 422nd, a 44-place move, by winning the HSBC China Junior Golf Open.

An, who won the second leg of the HSBC National Junior Champions in March, returned scores of 73, 69 and 76 at Zhuhai Lakewood Golf Club for a 218 tally and a three-shot victory.

The distinction of having the biggest ranking improvement of the week belonged to Mirabel Ting Ern Hui of Malaysia.

She took that honour with a 692-position jump to 976th following victory in the third leg of the SportExcel-Milo-NSC Malaysian Junior Premier Elite Golf Circuit.
