Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) Ladies Amateur Open Championship will make a long-awaited return to the golfing calendar after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Scheduled for August 1-3, the 46th edition at RSGC is expected to attract up to 80 leading amateurs from Malaysia and across the region.

The players will take on RSGC’s much-vaunted championship East Course, a composite layout made up of the first nine of the Old Course and second nine of the New Course.

Over the past few editions, the championship has not only showcased superb golf but also gained a reputation for its excellent organisation and superb hospitality.

Participants will vie for four trophies – the Tuanku Bahiyah Trophy for the gross champion, the Toh Puan Norashikin Trophy for the nett champion, the Datin Azian Trophy for the team gross champion, and the Clarissa Lee Trophy for the team nett champion.

“The RSGC Ladies Amateur Open Championship is more than just a golf tournament. It is a celebration of talent, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence,” said Stella Chau, Co-Organising Chair.

She added: “This championship serves as a platform for the most promising female amateur golfers to showcase their skills, compete against their peers, and leave their mark in the world of golf.

“The journey of organising such a prestigious event begins long before the first tee-off and our team has worked tirelessly to create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. The response has been overwhelming, with entries from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Japan, South Korea, India and Singapore.

“The excitement surrounding this championship continues to grow, and we anticipate a highly competitive and thrilling tournament.”

The RSGC event will be held the week after the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open at Templer Park Country Club, giving players the chance to compete in back-to-back events.

Among the players confirmed so far are two of Malaysia’s US-based national players – 2019 champion Winnie Ng and Mirabel Ting, the country’s second highest ranked amateur with a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) of 59.

The championship is open to female amateurs with WHS indices of 14.3 and lower. In addition to the main event, there will be a Division 2 category for golfers with handicaps of 13 and higher.

This is the second WAGR event in as many months to be hosted by RSGC, following the 8th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Championship in early June which saw Malaysian Hariz Hezri and Indonesian Sania Talita Wahyudi emerge as the boys’ and girls’ champions respectively.

Established in 1893, RSGC is the oldest active golf club in Malaysia and the fourth oldest in Asia. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the club's historic course is surrounded by towering skyscrapers and has been the venue for numerous international tournaments such as the Putra Cup, Nomura Cup, Malaysian Open, Malaysian Masters and the inaugural Maybank Championship Malaysia in 2016.

Closing date for entries is July 21. For more information, log on to http://lao.thersgc.com/
