Singapore: The Singapore Golf Association (SGA) has unveiled its 2025 national squad, comprising 49 amateurs and 11 professionals who will don national colours and represent Singapore in domestic and international competitions.
The squad announcement, which was made during a ceremony at the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC), underscores the SGA’s commitment to building a sustainable pipeline of talent across both the professional and amateur ranks.
Apart from the professional squad, the country’s top male and female amateurs have been carefully selected based on a comprehensive evaluation process that includes performances over a one-year cycle, results from squad trials, Order of Merit rankings, and committee selection.
All SGA national squad members will benefit from an enhanced high-performance pathway where they will receive a tailored programme of support that covers advanced training modules, technical and tactical development, and access to sports science expertise.
In addition, they will be given greater opportunities to compete in both local and overseas tournaments, ensuring exposure to high-level competition that is critical for their progression.
Among the notable names are Hiroshi Tai, who this year became the first Singaporean to play in the Masters Tournament, Brayden Lee, winner of The Royal Junior in Japan this year, two-time Ladies European Tour winner Shannon Tan, and Chen Xingtong, runner-up at this year’s US Junior Girls’ Championship.
SGA National coach Murray Smit expressed his confidence in the squad. He said: “These squad members have been carefully selected and we are confident they will represent Singapore with the highest pride and honour at elite-level competitions either locally or abroad.
“The SGA will ensure they can excel at the highest level with our regular training, and high-performance tactical and technical support.”
The national squad announcement comes at a pivotal time for Singapore golf, with the SGA playing host to the World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) for the first time at Tanah Merah Country Club in early October and also welcoming the return of the Singapore Open to SICC the following month.
