Seoul, Korea: Korean national team member Hwang Yu-min’s rise up the women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) has continued.

A week after capturing the 45th Korea Women’s Amateur Golf Championship, 18-year-old Hwang was back in the winner’s enclosure with victory in the Bitgoeuljungheung Cup.

With those back-to-back successes, Hwang has soared into 14th place in the WAGR, taking over from Bang Shin-sil as the highest-rated Korean in the rankings.

Only three Asians are ahead of her in the latest standings – Chinese Taipei’s An Ho-yu (seventh), Japan’s Tsubasa Kajitani (10th) and China’s Yin Xiaowen (13th).

The catalyst for Hwang’s rise was a tied fourth place finish in last month’s DB Group 35th Korea Women’s Open which featured many of the country’s most prominent professionals.

Also trending upwardly is China’s Lin Yuxin, the two-time Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship winner.

One of only two amateurs to make the cut in last week’s 149th Open Championship at Royal St George’s, left-handed Lin has moved up two spots to 16th – just one off his highest rating.

The men’s WAGR continue to be led by Japan’s Keita Nakajima ahead of compatriots Ren Yonezawa (ninth) and Taiga Sugihara (12th) and Korean Sam Choi (14th).

Meanwhile, James Hydes of New Zealand also made a significant move. This week he became the 49th ranked player with a two-ranking move, his first appearance in the top 50.

He’s the only New Zealander currently in the top-100.
