Evian-les-Bains, France: Malaysian Mirabel Ting will make her professional debut at the Amundi Evian Championship, the LPGA Tour’s fourth Major of the year which takes place at the picturesque Evian Resort Golf Club from July 10-13.
Ting recently announced her intention to join the paid ranks following a superb amateur career, which culminated in a spectacular junior year with Florida State University (FSU). She earned her place and a potentially lucrative maiden pay-day in the US$8 million Amundi Evian Championship in France as the 2025 recipient of the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, given annually to the leading female golfer on the US collegiate circuit.
Ting's standout final season on the US collegiate circuit saw her chalk up five wins and a runner-up finish in the blue-ribbon NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship. The run of fine form and results moved the 19-year-old up to second place in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, behind FSU team-mate Lottie Woad of England who is also playing at Evian Resort.
“I have not played in Europe before and it will be my first time in France, so I'm really excited to be playing in my first LPGA Major there. I'm just looking forward to playing with the best golfers in the world,” said Ting, who was a member of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation team that reclaimed the Patsy Hankins Trophy with an emphatic victory over the European Golf Association in the United Arab Emirates in January.
Ting’s final amateur outing came on home soil at last month’s TSM Golf Challenge at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, where she defended her title by a whopping 12-stroke margin with a total of three-under-par 209.
In a heartfelt post on social media, Ting thanked everyone who played a role in her amateur golfing journey, including her FSU team-mates and coaches.
"A 10-year-old Mirabel could never have imagined this moment but, after years of dedication and heart, I'm proud to announce that I'm turning professional and chasing my dream of playing on the LPGA Tour. I can't wait to see where the journey leads," she wrote.
The Amundi Evian Championship will be Ting’s second start in an LPGA Tour event, following last year’s Maybank Championship at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club when she finished as leading Malaysian in joint 12th position on 12-under-par.
“Playing in the Maybank Championship last year gave me valuable experience and, after that tournament, I played quite well over the season. I feel like it helped,” noted Ting.
Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam said: “Mirabel has had an incredible amateur career and truly embodies what the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel stands for - excellence, determination, and sportsmanship. Watching her dominate at the collegiate level and now take a new leap into the professional ranks is exciting. I wish her the best.”
Born in the city of Miri in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak, Ting stated playing golf at age five and her talent was evident from early on. She soon dominated the Malaysian junior scene, winning a scholarship to Hills International College in Australia which she attended from 2019 to 2020. Ting went to United States in 2022 and spent one season with Augusta University before transferring to FSU.
Ting’s elder brother, Malcolm, has been a professional golfer since late 2023 and also enjoyed an excellent amateur career. He played in the 2023 Bonallack Trophy in Spain for the victorious Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation team.
Ting will be joined at Evian Resort by compatriot Jeneath Wong, winner of the 2025 Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific in Vietnam. This will be Wong’s third Major start, following the 2024 US Women’s Open and the 2025 Chevron Championship, missing the half-way cut in both.
Filipina Rianne Malixi, winner of the 2024 US Women’s Amateur and US Girls’ Junior, is also in the field and will be making her second Major appearance following a missed cut at this year's US Women’s Open.
