Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Singapore teen Amelie Blossom Ng upstaged her more experienced rivals in the girls’ category at the 10th RSGC-SportExcel Junior Invitational Championship, coasting to a three-shot victory over Thailand’s Vichayada Reammuang at Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC).

The 13-year-old Ng carded consistent rounds of 75, 74 and 74 for a 54-hole total of four-over-par 223 at RSGC’s East Course, set up as a par-73 for the girls. This was the Singapore National Junior Development Squad player's first-ever international victory.

Vichayada, meanwhile, recovered from an opening 78 with subsequent rounds of 75 and 73 for a seven-over 226 aggregate, four shots clear of third-placed Jamie Tan Huan Ying of Malaysia (79-73-78).

The boys’ title was bagged by local talent Joshua Lim Xhi Xing, who bettered his runner-finish in 2024 with rounds of 71, 71 and 75 for a one-over-par 217 total. The Malaysian held his nerve in an exciting final round, prevailing by one shot over Lee Hsu of Chinese Taipei (73-75-70) and Korean Kang Geon (70-77-71).

Defending boys’ champion Jonathan Manuel Wijanto of Indonesia, who won by nine shots last year, settled for fourth place on four-over 220 (71-74-75).

This was the third successive year that the invitational event for juniors aged 18 and below has been staged by RSGC in partnership with the Foundation for Malaysian Sporting Excellence, known as SportExcel in short. Established in 1991, SportExcel is a non-profit body that supports elite development in numerous sports and runs its own junior golf circuit.

In the previous two editions, two leading Malaysians were sponsored to compete in a regional junior event in Southeast Asia. This year, that initiative was amplified two-fold with four players selected for the overseas exposure – boys’ champion Lim (as leading Malaysian in the Boys’ Under-18 category), girls’ second runner-up Tan (leading Malaysian, Girls’ Under-15), Nik Alicia Miriam Kamil (leading Malaysian, Girls’ Under-18) and Muhammad Afham Othman (leading Malaysian, Boys’ Under-15).

Khor Yew Teik, Organising Chairman of the championship, noted that their objective has always been to help elevate the development of junior golf in Malaysia.

“By providing a competitive and structured platform, we hope to inspire our young players to push their limits — not just in golf, but in life. The discipline, drive and spirit of competition they experience here will serve them well in all future endeavours,” said Khor.

The championship also provided the juniors with the opportunity to play at RSGC, one of Asia’s oldest and most revered members’ golf clubs with a history dating back to 1893. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city with stunning views of the urban skyline, RSGC has been the venue for numerous high-profile tournaments such as the Putra Cup, Nomura Cup, Malaysian Open and the 2016 Maybank Championship.
