Florida, United States: Former New Zealand amateur standout Amelia Garvey has carved herself a unique place in the golfing record books.
In a ground-breaking performance at the NXXT Women’s Championship at Royal St Cloud, Garvey scored an eagle, albatross, and a hole-in-one in a single round – believed to be the first time a golfer has achieved the feat.
“This achievement is beyond my wildest dreams. I hope to make it into the history books for other things, but I definitely won’t forget this day,” said Garvey, whose closing six-under-par 66 lifted her into a share of seventh place in the 54-hole event.
As well as an eagle-three at the par-five opening hole, Garvey ‘aced’ the par-three sixth en route to a front-nine three-under 33. Not content with those heroics, she also holed out with her second shot at the par-five 13th for a rare albatross.
Garvey’s achievement helped her Team Pirates GC side to victory in the team competition.
Garvey played collegiately at the University of Southern California, where she was a three-time All-American.
During her amateur career, Garvey tied for 24th place in the inaugural Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific in Singapore in 2018.
The previous year, she represented New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Ladies Golf Team Championship for the Queen Sirikit Cup in China.
Among her other achievements as an amateur, Garvey qualified for the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.
