Singapore: Stellar performances in the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) have propelled Eila Galitsky and Sophie Han up the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Thai Galitsky produced a brilliant virtuoso performance to win the fifth edition of the WAAP by five strokes at Singapore Island Country Club (SICC). Meanwhile, Han, who represents Hong Kong, China, claimed a share of third place.
As a result of those efforts, Galitsky has risen 69 spots to 124th in the WAGR, while Han has soared 107 spots to a career-high position of 308th.
The strength of the WAAP field is illustrated by the fact that six of the WAGR’s top-20 and 10 of the top-40 competed in the Singapore showpiece.
Three other players enjoyed a double-digit rise in their ranking based on their performances in the WAAP.
Virginie Ding of Hong Kong, China has improved 22 places to 174th after finishing in a tie for 10th at SICC.
Meanwhile, the mainland China duo of An Tong and Ni Zixin both went up 11 slots. An (tied seventh) is up to 115th while Ni (tied 13th) rises to 153rd.
Three Koreans were also upwardly mobile. Kim Min-sol, runner-up to Galitsky, is up three places to 11th while Park Ye-ji (tied third) rose eight spots to 40th and Seo Kyo-rim is up six to 60th after gaining a share of 10th at SICC.
Yuna Araki, one of four players tied for third, retains fifth place in the WAGR while fellow-Japanese Rin Yoshida has slipped to sixth after settling for joint 28th place in the WAAP.
Japan's Mizuki Hashimoto (tied 44th) dropped two places to 21st with fellow former WAAP champion Tiffany Huang Ting-hsuan (ninth) of Chinese Taipei up one to 31st.
It was also notable that 12-year-old Chinese Liu Yujie has broken into the WAGR’s top-300 for the first time.
Following her equal 32nd finish on her WAAP debut, Liu has improved her position by nine spots to 296th.
