Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The RSGC Ladies Amateur Open Championship continues to evolve and expand in tandem with Royal Selangor Golf Club’s long-standing commitment to the development of ladies’ golf.

The 48th edition of the championship is expected to draw a top-class field from across the region when it tees-off from August 5-7. The players will compete over 54 holes at the club’s championship East Course, comprising the first nine of the Old Course and the second nine of the New Course.

Located in the heart of the country’s bustling capital of Kuala Lumpur, Royal Selangor Golf Club, or RSGC as it is popularly referred to, is Malaysia’s oldest golf club with a history dating back to 1893. The club’s two 18-hole parkland-style courses provide lush respite and one of the region’s best golfing experiences against a stunning backdrop of towering skyscrapers.

Open to female amateurs aged 12 and above with handicap indices of 13.4 and below, this year’s championship has already attracted entries from the host nation, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, India, Guam and Bangladesh. Apart from the Tuanku Bahiyah Trophy for the gross champion, the players will also be competing for the Toh Puan Norashikin Trophy (nett champion), Datin Azian Trophy (team gross champion) and the Clarissa Lee Trophy (team nett champion).

Reflecting the growing stature of the championship, the top ASEAN player on the final leaderboard will be rewarded with a slot in the following week’s Maybank Championship ASEAN Qualifier. To be played at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club on August 12-13, the qualifier rewards the top-five finishers with starts in the LPGA Tour’s US$3 million Maybank Championship in October.

Organising Chairperson Ai-Leen Tan was elated at the excellent response, saying: “Last year, we welcomed entries from 11 countries. This year, we are excited to carry that momentum forward, with the golf federations of Guam, Bangladesh and Indonesia sending us teams. Their participation speaks volumes about how this championship continues to attract rising stars across Asia-Pacific.

“At RSGC, we are committed to providing a platform that supports and uplifts women in golf. This championship is not just about crowning winners – it’s about giving young players an arena where their skills, sportsmanship and spirit can shine.”

The championship’s roster of past winners includes many talents who have progressed to successful professional careers, including two-time champion Winnie Ng of Malaysia who joined the paid ranks immediately after her second triumph last year. In 2023, the championship was won by leading Malaysian amateur Mirabel Ting, now ranked second in the World Amateur Golf Ranking following a superb season on the U.S. collegiate circuit for Florida State University.

Over the course of its storied history, RSGC has hosted numerous high-profile events including the Malaysian Open, Nomura Cup, Putra Cup and the inaugural Maybank Championship Malaysia in 2016.

The closing date for entries is July 26, 2025. For more information, visit lao.thersgc.com.
