Hobart, Tasmania, Australia: Teenager Kai Komulainen continued his magical start to 2021 with victory in the Tasmanian Junior Masters.
The 15-year-old’s triumph at Royal Hobart Golf Club came just five days after he won the Tasmanian Junior Amateur.
Since the turn of the year, Komulainen has also won the South Australia Junior Amateur Championship and finished second in the South Australian Junior Masters.
On the back of that spectacular run of form, he’s been rising in The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
The Queenslander’s latest success, secured with rounds of 70, 70, 68 and 71, saw him soar 1,763 spots to 3,239th, his highest status.
A member at Emerald Lakes Golf Club on the Gold Coast, Komulainen’s previous victories include last year’s Gary Player Classic 15 years section.
Meanwhile, New Zealanders Vivian Lu and Son Yeon-soo reached WAGR milestones after sharing victory in the North Island Under-19 championship.
They were declared joint winners after recording matching final round 74s for 215 totals to win by one stroke at Riverside Golf Club near Hamilton.
In so doing, they attained their highest ranking positions. Lu, who won last year’s South Island Stroke Play, moved 11 places to 254th while Son climbed 96 spots to 1,162nd.
