Seattle, Washington, United States: Nadene Gole and Sue Wooster are mounting a two-pronged Australian assault at the 62nd US Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.

In the 36-hole stroke play segment at Broadmoor Golf Club, Gole finished joint second while Wooster ended in a share of fourth place.

Joining them in the match play phase which commences on Monday are fellow-Australian Louise Mullard and Japan’s Tomoko Suzuki.

Suzuki’s compatriot Itsuko Moridaira will take part in an eight-player play-off to determine the final six places among the 64 qualifiers.

With rounds of 74 and 71, Gole’s 145 total was just one stroke behind medallist Shelly Stouffer of Canada. Wooster posted scores of 74 and 73.

Gole and Wooster were members of the Australian team that won the inaugural Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation Women’s Senior Amateur team title in Malaysia in 2022. Wooster was last year’s individual champion.

Wooster, aged 62, is also a three-time runner-up in the US Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, the last occasion being in 2022 when she was defeated 4&3 in the final by Stouffer.

Gole, meanwhile, created history in July when she became the first Australian to win The R&A Women’s Senior Amateur championship.

And she’s been quick to embrace the challenge of the Broadmoor Golf Club.

She said: “I’m looking forward to playing the golf course again tomorrow. When I walked in here on Wednesday I just thought ‘what a beautiful golf course.’ The greens run about the same speeds as back home (in Melbourne). I’m very lucky and feel honoured to play such a beautiful golf course.”
