Quang Nam, Vietnam: Mark Allen, Ian Frost and Ken Brewer will spearhead Australia’s bid to defend its men’s team title at this month’s Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Senior Amateur Championships.
Allen, Frost and Brewer were all members of the Australian team that triumphed in the event last year at Malaysia’s Kota Permai Golf & Country Club.
At the Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An in Quang Nam from November 21-23, the trio will be joined by James Lavender. The leading three daily scores in each of the four-strong men’s teams will count towards the overall total.
In the women’s event, which will run concurrently with the men’s tournament, Australia will also be favourites to retain their title. They will be represented by Sue Wooster, Louise Mullard and Gemma Dooley.
Wooster finished second in the individual standings behind Japan’s Hiroko Oga last year, which marked the launch of the APGC Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
Conspicuous by her absence in Vietnam will be the injured Nadene Gole, a member of the winning team last year and the reigning women’s Australian Senior Amateur champion.
The Australian team has been selected based on performances over the past 12 months in the national Senior Order of Merit and the 2022 Australian Senior Amateur.
Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of the APGC, said: “We look forward to welcoming a strong Australian team to this year’s championships.
“This event has become very popular among our member countries with the seniors enjoying the competitive environment and the friendly atmosphere in which it is played.
“Thanks to Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An and the Vietnam Golf Association for stepping forward to host these championships. I’m sure it will be a tremendous week.”
