Woorim, Queensland, Australia: Victorians Greg Rhodes and Kim Morris claimed tense victories at the 2026 Australian Senior Amateur, producing memorable finishes at Bribie Island Golf Club.

Coomella Golf Club’s Rhodes secured his third Australian Senior Amateur title, adding to his previous victories in 2015 and 2017.

The 67-year-old finished the 54-hole tournament at even-par, edging runner-up Michael Lucas by one shot.

After opening with a three-over-par 75, Rhodes bounced back with a second-round 69 to move within one shot of Lucas heading into the final round.

A composed even-par 72 proved enough to seal the title, as Lucas closed with a two-over-par 74. New Zealand’s Stuart Duff finished third at three-over-par after signing for a final-round 69.

“It was fantastic. Great course, fantastic company. Golf was pretty good, too, and tight all the way. Really a great day out,” said Rhodes, a two-time winner of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Senior Amateur Championships (2016 and 2022).

Rhodes paid tribute to Ian Frost (tied 33rd), who played his own 18 holes in the morning before returning to caddie for the champion in the afternoon.

“I need to pay homage to Ian Frost, who played 18 holes this morning, shot two-over-par, and then came out and caddied for me this afternoon. I reckon he saved me a few shots as well.”

The victory moves Rhodes to fourth on the National Senior Order of Merit.

Morris, representing Shepparton Golf Club, produced the lowest round of the tournament to claim the women’s title, overcoming a four-shot deficit with a closing three-under-par 71.

The 54-year-old began the final round at 11-over-par, trailing co-leaders Nadene Gole and defending champion Sue Wooster, who were both at seven-over.

However, a superb final-round performance saw Morris finish at eight-over to claim the title by one shot from Gole, who carded a 76. Wooster finished third at 13-over-par after a closing 80.

The win lifts Morris to second on the National Order of Merit.

Morris said: “I played the best round of my life really. Just managed to keep it together, putts rolled in, the approaches were close. It was really good.

“Sue and Nadene are legends of Australian golf and to be in the field with them firstly and to compete with them is amazing. I never thought I’d be ahead of them and it took the round of my golfing career to finish in front. I’m lost for words, to be honest.”
