Tenerife, Spain: The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), the European Golf Association (EGA) and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation have confirmed that the 2027 Bonallack and Patsy Hankins Trophies will be played at Buenavista Golf in Tenerife from January 6-8.
Staged biennially in parallel, the Ryder Cup-style contests bring together 12-player men’s and women’s teams representing Europe and Asia-Pacific for three days of elite amateur match play.
The 2027 matches will mark the 13th edition of the Bonallack Trophy and fifth staging of the Patsy Hankins Trophy, with some of the world’s best amateur golfers set to compete on Tenerife’s north-west coast.
Asia-Pacific will arrive in Spain as defending champions in both matches following a memorable double victory at Al Hamra Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates in 2025.
The men’s contest went down to the final matches, with Asia-Pacific edging Europe 16½-15½ to secure a third consecutive Bonallack Trophy victory.
The Patsy Hankins Trophy was also closely contested through the opening two days before a strong final-day singles performance helped Asia-Pacific reclaim the trophy with a 21-11 victory.
The quality of the matches was reflected in the players involved. Among the leading contestants were Spaniard José Luis Ballester, England’s Lottie Woad, Japan’s Rintaro Nakano, China’s Ren Yijia and Zhou Shiyuan and Malaysian Mirabel Ting, continuing a long tradition of the matches featuring players who go on to compete at the highest levels of the professional game.

Buenavista Golf, alongside the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, will provide a distinctive setting for the 2027 matches. Originally planned to be contested in the Middle East, the event will instead return to Spain, which also hosted the most recent European staging of the matches at La Manga Club in 2023.
Located in Buenavista del Norte on Tenerife’s north-west coast, the course was designed by Spanish golf legend Severiano Ballesteros. It sits alongside Hacienda del Conde, a Meliá Collection hotel, between the Atlantic Ocean and the landscapes of the Teno Rural Park.
The 18-hole, par-72 layout stretches to approximately 6,150 metres from the back tees and makes extensive use of its coastal surroundings, with several holes running alongside the ocean and others framed by mountain views and natural terrain.
The venue offers a scenic and challenging test for elite amateur golf, while also giving players and officials the opportunity to experience one of Tenerife’s most characteristic regions.
Three of the four captains from the 2025 matches will return to lead their respective teams in Tenerife.
Asia-Pacific’s defending sides will again be led by Rishi Narain in the Bonallack Trophy and Joanne McKee in the Patsy Hankins Trophy.
Joachim Fourquet will once again captain the European men’s team, while the European women’s captain will be confirmed shortly.
Played over three days, both matches feature five foursomes matches in the morning and five fourball matches in the afternoon on each of the opening two days, followed by 12 singles matches on the final day.
A total of 32 points are available, with 16½ required to secure outright victory.
The Bonallack Trophy was first played in 1998 and is named after the late Sir Michael Bonallack, one of the most decorated amateur golfers in the history of the game and a hugely influential figure in golf administration.
Over the years, the match has featured a host of Major champions in the making – Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari for Europe, and Hideki Matsuyama, Cameron Smith and Geoff Ogilvy for Asia-Pacific.
The Patsy Hankins Trophy was inaugurated in 2016 as the women’s equivalent and is named in memory of influential New Zealand golf administrator Patsy Hankins.
Former participants include Yuka Saso, Hannah Green, Patty Tavatanakit, Grace Kim and Atthaya ‘Jeeno’ Thitikul for Asia-Pacific and Lottie Woad, Emma Spitz and Albane Valenzuela for Europe.
