Manila, Philippines: Four talented junior players will represent Europe at this week’s Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championships.

To be staged over the Jack Nicklaus-designed Legends Course at The Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club, the championships bring together the top junior players aged 17-and-under from APGC member countries.

The APGC traditionally invites the European Golf Association (EGA) to send two mixed teams of one boy and one girl.

Performances in the European Young Masters, where four Asia-Pacific juniors are also typically invited to compete each year, is used to select the EGA teams for the event.

At Manila Southwoods, the French duo of Tom De Herrypon and Céleste Bobo-Lloret will form Europe Team 1 with Spaniard Raul Gomez Montalva and Czech Anna Ludvova joining forces as Europe Team 2.

Gomez is currently 703rd in the men’s World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) with De Herrypon 1,250th.

Bobo-Lloret is 928th in the women’s rankings with Ludvova in 1,708th place.

“We extend a warm welcome to our friends from Europe,” said APGC Board member Bones Floro, who also acts as Secretary-General and Chief Operating Officer of the National Golf Association of the Philippines and Deputy Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of the Philippines.

“The APGC and the EGA continue to work closely together, not only on our respective junior tournaments but also on the Bonallack Trophy and Patsy Hankins Trophy which we’ve recently announced will take place in the United Arab Emirates in January,” added Floro.

The four players have travelled to the Philippines with Myrte Eikenaar of the Netherlands, an experienced captain who recently led the Continent of Europe Junior Vagliano Trophy team.

The APGC Junior Championships is contested over 54 holes of stroke play (September 4-6). In addition to the team category, which takes the aggregate scores from both players on each team, prizes are also available for the best individual girls and boys.
