Yin Soars in World Amateur Golf Ranking

Singapore: Teenager Yin Xiaowen’s stock continues to rise, along with her status in The R&A’s World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

On the back of her stunning victory on the China LPGA Tour last week, the 15-year-old student has soared 27 places to a career-best 52nd in the standings.

With her five-stroke victory in last week’s Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Challenge, Yin became the youngest winner in China LPGA Tour history. It was her second consecutive victory and fourth in six events this year, underlining the high regard in which she’s held.

As well as being a member of the China team that finished third in last year’s Queen Sirikit Cup at Glenelg Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia, Yin performed creditably to place tied 12th in the second edition of the Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific at The Royal Club in Japan in 2019.

Yin, who is based in Guangdong where she attends an international school, has no immediate plans to turn professional. “I have received offers from Washington University and Wake Forest University, so maybe I will go to college abroad after graduating from high school,” said Yin, who is now third among mainland Chinese players in the WAGR behind only Ye Lei (18th) and Liu Siyun (35th).

In terms of the WAGR, it proved to be a good week, too, for Malaysian Warda Amira Abd Rawof and Japan’s Taisei Shimizu.

At the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, South Carolina, East Tennessee State student Rawof returned a three-round total of three-over 219 to tie Poland’s Dorota Zalewska for top spot. They were declared joint winners.

Rawof advanced 56 positions to 587th, her highest placing in the WAGR.

Meanwhile, in the men’s rankings, Shimizu edged up one spot into 50th position. He was the only player to move into the top-50 in a week with no new top 20 entrants.
