Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Worsening haze conditions affecting the Klang Valley and surrounding areas have prompted the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) to postpone the 100PLUS MGA National Junior Development Programme (NJDP) Junior Series 2026 – Grand Final.

The event was scheduled to take place at Seri Selangor Golf Club from October 27-30.

The decision follows MGA’s continuous monitoring of the prevailing haze situation, including Air Pollutant Index (API) readings reported by the Department of Environment Malaysia.

An MGA statement said: “Air quality in several parts of Selangor has remained at unhealthy levels, with no clear indication of sustained improvement in the immediate future.

“After careful consideration and assessment of the potential health risks associated with prolonged outdoor exposure, particularly for junior golfers competing over several consecutive days, MGA has made the difficult but necessary decision to postpone the tournament until conditions are deemed safe for competition.

“The health, safety and well-being of junior golfers, officials, volunteers, staff and all those involved remain MGA’s highest priority.”

MGA President, Admiral Tan Sri Dato’ Setia Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor (Retired), said: “We fully recognise the disappointment and inconvenience that this postponement may cause, particularly to our junior golfers who have trained diligently and looked forward to competing in the Grand Final.

“This has not been an easy decision. We have been closely monitoring the haze situation and evaluating the potential risks. Given the prevailing conditions and the uncertainty surrounding improvements in air quality, we believe that postponement is the most responsible course of action.

“While competitive opportunities are important to the development of our young golfers, their health and well-being must always come first.”

The 100PLUS MGA NJDP Junior Series is an important component of the MGA’s junior development pathway, providing young golfers from across Malaysia with opportunities to gain competitive experience, improve their performance and progress towards higher levels of the sport.

The statement added: “MGA acknowledges the considerable commitment made by players, parents, coaches, participating clubs and other stakeholders in preparing for the Grand Final, including travel arrangements, training schedules and logistical preparations.

“MGA, through its National Junior Development Programme, together with its valued title sponsor 100PLUS, sincerely apologises for the inconvenience and disruption arising from this postponement.

“The Grand Final has been postponed, not cancelled. MGA remains committed to staging the tournament and ensuring that participating junior golfers have the opportunity to compete under safe and suitable conditions.

“The revised tournament dates will be announced once the haze situation has improved sufficiently and the necessary arrangements with the host venue and other stakeholders have been finalised.

“The future of Malaysian golf depends on our young athletes, and safeguarding their health and well-being will always take precedence.”
