Xiamen, China: Singapore’s Ryan Ang secured his first professional win with a one-shot victory from China’s She Zihan at the weather-shortened Straits Cup Xiamen Open.
Inclement weather on the opening day forced the tournament on the China Golf Tour to be shortened to a 54-hole contest at Orient Golf and Country Club.
Ang opened with a three-under-par 68 to sit tied-eighth before surging to the top of the leaderboard with a second-round 66. The 26-year-old closed with a 71 to finish on eight-under 205 and secure his breakthrough victory.
Ang said: “This win is extra special because I didn’t expect it to come so soon after turning professional in 2024. It means the world to me, and I’m really happy to see the hard work paying off. It has been such a journey, from the high of finishing as the top Singaporean at the Singapore Open and carrying that momentum into this week.
“To get it done while playing in the final group again makes it even more special. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead, but I’m definitely going to savour this first win.”
Prior to his breakthrough win, Ang was in contention at the China Golf Tour's Chongqing Open, where he finished tied-third. He also emerged as the best Singaporean in tied-12th place at last month’s Singapore Open presented by The Business Times.
Before turning pro, Ang made two appearances in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC). At Thailand’s Amata Spring Country Club in 2022 he finished joint 41st. A year later he tied for 19th at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
