World Number One Ranking in Sight for Kim Min-sol

Singapore: One of the brightest prospects in the women’s amateur game, Korean teenager Kim Min-sol’s stock continues to soar.

Kim may have been conspicuous by her absence at last week’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA). But that could not prevent her taking another step towards the number one spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

While a handful of her Asia-Pacific rivals were lining-up in the United States, 17-year-old Kim was competing against the professionals on the Korean LPGA Tour.

Thanks to an eighth-placed finish in the Doosan E&C We’ve Championship, Kim has moved up one place to second in the WAGR.

Standing between her and the number one position is decorated Swede Ingrid Lindblad, who finished third in the ANWA. The Louisiana State University standout has indicated her intention to turn professional this year, leaving the door open for a new number one.

Also in contention for that accolade is England’s Lottie Woad, whose victory at Augusta National last weekend lifted her into third place.

On the back of their joint eighth place finish in the ANWA, Malaysian Mirabel Ting and Thai Eila Galitsky have both secured career-best rankings.

Ting went up four place to 13th in the WAGR, while Galitsky, last year’s Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) champion, has climbed three spots to 25th.

Last year, as well as finishing runner-up to Galitsky in the WAAP, Kim was a member of the Korean team that won the gold medal in the Women’s Amateur Team Championships in Abu Dhabi and the silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
