Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Exactly a year after pulling off a stunning golden performance at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Ng Jing Xuen is making waves once more.
It was in the second week of May 2023 that Malaysian Ng, popularly known as JX, upstaged Thai Eila Galitsky to strike individual gold in the women’s golf tournament at the 32nd SEA Games at Phnom Penh’s Garden City Golf Club.
A year on, Ng has found herself back in the winner’s enclosure, this time upsetting Malaysia’s female professionals by winning the Ladies Championship in the Toyota Tour’s Vios Cup.
With her mother proving to be a calming influence as caddie, Ng posted rounds of 74, 72 and a closing 67 at Templer Park Country Club.
With a 54-hole total of three-under 213, Ng finished three shots ahead of runner-up Aretha Pan, whose fellow professionals Jocelyn Chee (218) and Geraldine Wong (219) placed third and fourth respectively.
Ng praised her mother for the role she played. “It was the first time she’s caddied for me and she did a really great job, especially helping me to control my emotions and frustrations.”
Ng is now setting her sights on improving her standing in the World Amateur Golf Ranking in which she began the week in 203rd spot.
“I’m really excited with this win, especially after all the hard work I’ve put in. I can’t wait to go out again and hope that this is really trending in the right direction,” said Ng, whose other highlights during the past 12 months include wins in the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open and Johor Amateur Open.
At February’s sixth Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP), Ng finished in a share of 26th place at Thailand’s Siam Country Club.
