Huang Powers to Victory at Pinehurst

Singapore: Chinese Taipei’s Huang Ting-hsuan took a firm grip on her status in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) top-100 following a five-shot victory in the North and South Junior Amateur over Pinehurst’s famed No 2 course.

The 17-year-old scratch handicapper was almost perfection personified from her opening 67, the best score of the week, to take a lead she never relinquished.

She added consecutive 69s, the only player to break 70 for all three rounds, for an 11-under 205 tally that sees her maintain 90th place in the WAGR.

In May, Huang starred in the Queen Sirikit Cup in Singapore, recording an opening-round hole-in-one en route to claiming third place individually at Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

Meanwhile, Lim Ji-yoo lived up to her billing as the second highest ranked Korean on the WAGR by winning the Dream Park Cup in her homeland.

She ran out a three-stroke winner with rounds of 66, 63 and 68 for a 197 total. Lim, who finished runner up in the previous week’s Korean Women’s Amateur Championship, strengthens her hold on the world number eight position.

Only world number three Hwang You-min is ranked higher than Lim on the Korean pecking order.

Also savouring success was Australian Sarah Hammett, who climbed 14 spots to 172nd after becoming the first player in 10 years to win the NSW Amateur and NSW Junior titles in the same year.

The Queenslander followed in the footsteps of Justine Lee when she added the NSW Junior Championship to the NSW Amateur she won in January. The 15-year old sandwiched a second round 69 between a pair of 73s to post a five-under 215 and win by two shots.

The honour of recording the biggest ranking improvement of the week went to Japan's Suzu Shimada who jumped 1,252 positions to 708th by finishing 60th among the professionals in the Nipponham Ladies Classic on the Japan LPGA Tour.
