Singapore: Talented teenager Yin Xiaowen has broken into the top-50 in The R&A’s World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) for the first time.
Despite not lifting a club last week, the 15-year-old student rose four places to 48th in the standings.
Yin, who is based in the southern China Province of Guangdong where she attends an international school, has won four of the seven events she’s played this season.
That includes a five-stroke victory in last month’s Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Challenge, making her the youngest winner in China LPGA Tour history. It was her second consecutive victory.
As well as being a member of the China team that finished third in last year’s Queen Sirikit Cup at Glenelg Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia, Yin tied for 12th in the second edition of the Women’s Amateur Asia Pacific at The Royal Club in Japan in 2019.
Yin remains third among mainland Chinese players in the WAGR behind only Ye Lei (16th) and Liu Siyun (37th).
Meanwhile, Yin’s compatriot Zhang Yahui has soared into the WAGR’s top-500 for the first time with a move of 79 places to 458th after emerging victorious from a play-off in the Super Lychee China Amateur Champions tournament.
She returned rounds of 75, 78 and 75 for a 228 total at Foshan Gaoming Yinhai Golf Club. She then won in a play-off with Fan Shuangshuang, who improves two spots to 371st.
Wan Yuanyuan was the biggest mover of the week in the WAGR’s women’s rankings. She reached a career high 1,274th with a jump of 322 positions thanks to a 12th place finish in the Super Lychee China Amateur Champions tournament in her homeland.
Elsewhere, Auckland won the New Zealand Women’s Inter-Provincials for the fifth straight year with a 5-0 victory over Canterbury in the final at Akarana Golf Club.
Team members Vivian Lu, Fiona Xu, Carmen Lim and Caryn Khoo all made WAGR table rises as a result. Lu and Xu advanced eight places to 282nd and 353rd respectively. Lim is seven places better off in 304th, while Khoo climbed 24 spots to 590th.
