Amin Recognised for Distinguished Service to Golf

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Taimur Hassan Amin has been recognised for his distinguished service to the game through decades of leadership in golf governance across the Asia-Pacific region.

Amin, who served on the Board of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) for 20 years and who stepped down as Chairman of the Confederation last week after six years in the post, has received the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) Outstanding Contribution to Golf Award.

The award was presented to 73-year-old Amin at the AGIF’s glittering Gala Awards Dinner at Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, during the Federation’s Annual International Summit.

A multi-time former Pakistan Amateur Open champion, Amin has played an influential role in shaping Asian golf administration over the past three decades.

As Chairman of the APGC, he strengthened the organisation’s governance and advanced its partnerships with The R&A and Augusta National Golf Club, while ensuring continuity of development programmes across the region.

Amin also led the APGC through the challenges of the global pandemic, overseeing the safe and successful resumption of major championships and supporting member associations in rebuilding competitive pathways.

Chris Gray, AGIF President, said: “Taimur’s commitment to the game and steady leadership through both opportunity and challenge have strengthened the foundations of golf across our region.”

Reflecting on his tenure as APGC Chairman, Amin said: “For me, it has been a privilege and a true honour to serve as Chairman of the APGC over the past six years. I look back with pride on what we have been able to achieve together – the resumption of our championships after the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the strengthening of our relationships with The R&A and Augusta National, and the continued association with our long-standing partners Rolex and new sponsors Kabaya Ohayo Holdings, with whom we have teamed up to stage The Royal Junior championship in Japan.

“We’ve also seen the launch of new events such as the APGC Mid-Amateur Championship and the introduction of the APGC Senior Ladies Championship, while our ties with the European Golf Association (EGA) have further developed. Some of the most memorable moments came when our teams triumphed against strong EGA line-ups in the Bonallack Trophy in 2023 and 2025, and this year’s Patsy Hankins Trophy. These victories showcased the strength of golf in our region and the talent we are nurturing for the future.

“As I step down, I do so with immense gratitude – to my Board members, to our member National Associations, our small team of hard-working staff, and to the many friends I have made along this journey. While my tenure as Chairman comes to a close, my commitment to the game and to the APGC will always remain. I look forward to seeing the Confederation grow even stronger in the years ahead.”

Gold sponsors of the 2025 AGIF Annual International Summit were The R&A, Club Car and Trojan Battery Company with Centaur Asia Pacific and Jebsen & Jessen as Silver sponsors. Tourism Malaysia was the Event Partner and Sime Darby Convention Centre the Venue Partner.

The Malaysian Association of Golf Recreational Club Owners, the Golf Course Superintendents’ Association of Malaysia and the Golf Club Managers Association of Malaysia were Supporting Partners.
