15-Year-Old Amateur Stuns China LPGA Rivals

Zhuhai, China: Zhang Yahui has written her name into the history books as the youngest winner on the China LPGA Tour.

The 15-year-old amateur defeated pro Zhang Yue on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off to win the CTBC Zhuhai Challenge in Guangdong Province.

After closing with a final round 69 to sit on six-under 210 through 54 holes, the Wuhan teenager made a birdie-three on the first extra hole.

With Zhang Yue (69) only able to muster a par on the 18th hole, victory went to her younger namesake.

Liu Wenbo (69) and amateur Zen Liqi (69) finished equal third one shot off the lead. Wang Xinying (69) was a distant fifth at one-under.

Zhang is the second amateur to win on the China LPGA Tour this year, joining 16-year-old sensation Yin Xiaowen who won the Nanshan Ladies Golf Challenge and Wuhuanxing Ladies Challenge.

Yin did not take part in the Guangdong event. She is continuing her preparations for next month's Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific in Abu Dhabi where she will be among the favourites to land the region's most prestigious amateur title.
