Tokyo, Japan: The Japan Golf Association (JGA) has announced the appointment of Kazuhiro Tsuga as its new Chairman.
The decision was formalised during the Extraordinary Board of Directors Meeting held following the 1st Ordinary Board of Councillors Meeting for Fiscal Year 2026.
Tsuga succeeds former Chairman Masanari Iketani. In his inaugural address, Tsuga emphasised his commitment to enhancing the golf environment in Japan amid challenging global economic conditions.
While carrying forward the current five-year mid-term business plan established in 2022, he revealed plans to formulate the next five-year strategy starting in 2027 to drive sustainable growth.
Tsuga, former Chief Executive Officer at Panasonic, said: “I am deeply honoured to assume the role of Chairman. Golf brings immense benefits, including extending healthy life expectancy and expanding social connections – gaining global attention since the pandemic.
“The JGA will continue to promote the handicap system, golf rules, and etiquette so that all golfers can enjoy the sport with mutual respect.”
Under Tsuga’s leadership, the JGA aims to actively share information to popularise the sport and ensure the sound development of the golf community for all stakeholders.
Philip Hassall, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), the region’s ruling body on amateur golf, said: “Congratulations to Kazuhiro-san on his appointment. The JGA was one of the driving forces behind the formation of the APGC in 1963 and has remained a prominent member.
“Under Kazurhiro-san’s leadership, the APGC looks forward to further strengthening the relationship between the two organisations.”
Established in 1924, the JGA is the governing body for golf in Japan. As a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation, the JGA is dedicated to the promotion, regulation, and development of golf, organising national championships, and fostering the next generation of golfers in alignment with international standards.
