Singapore: Reyes Halim and Anjanette Tan delivered composed performances to secure a memorable home double on the return of the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) Charles Schwab Junior Invitational Golf Championship (JIGC) to The Island Course.
Sanctioned by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) and recognised as a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) counting event, the tournament attracted an 82-strong field with 10 countries represented.
In the Boys’ Division, Halim claimed the title with a three-round total of 214, highlighted by a second-round 66.
Halim said: “Winning the 32nd SICC - Charles Schwab Junior Invitational Golf Championship is a special achievement for me. The Island Course presented a challenging test, and staying focused over three rounds was important. I am grateful for the opportunity to compete against such a strong international field.”
China’s Eric Lixuan Chen, the defending champion, finished runner-up on 216, while Singapore’s Cayden Leong secured third place on 217.
The Girls’ Division produced an equally compelling contest, with Tan demonstrating admirable consistency to capture the Overall Girls’ title with a three-round total of 222. Thai Thanyakarn Thawatwongdechakul finished one stroke behind to claim runner-up honours. American Vedona Gong completed the podium in third place
Tan said: “This championship challenged every aspect of my game. I focused on remaining patient and taking each shot as it came. Competing on The Island Course and winning against such a talented field has been a memorable experience. I'm very thankful for all the support I received throughout the tournament.”
SICC General Manager Ian Roberts said: “The JIGC reflects SICC’s long-standing commitment to developing the sport and creating opportunities for young golfers to compete at the highest level. The return to The Island Course has further elevated the championship experience, providing a fitting stage for aspiring golfers to test themselves against the region’s best.”
The Island Course has played an important role in the championship’s history, having hosted the tournament for many years and helping to shape generations of aspiring golfers.
In addition to returning to The Island Course, the tournament introduced an expanded age category spanning 12 to 19 years old and adopted a new June tournament window, broadening accessibility for junior golfers across the Asia-Pacific region.
“Having competed in this championship myself, I understand the impact it can have on a young golfer’s development. Seeing the tournament return to The Island Course and witnessing the quality of play throughout the week reinforces why the JIGC remains one of the region’s most important platforms for junior golf. We congratulate all participants on their achievements and look forward to following their journeys in the years ahead,” said SICC Club Captain Lam Zhiqun.
