Chance to Shine for Female Malaysian Golfers

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) has launched the Poh Kong Ladies Golf Series which will see three legs taking place from October to December this year.

The new series is designed to promote the game among ladies and forms part of the MGA’s commitment to that cause as a signatory to The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter. The title sponsor, Poh Kong, is Malaysia’s most established and largest jewellery retail chain.

There will be two ladies-only events, at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club (October 17) and Kota Permai Golf & Country Club (December 15), sandwiching a partnership event on November 23 at The Mines Resort & Golf Club.

The partnership event is open to teams of two with at least one of the players being female, and can be made up of family members or friends.

“Ladies have always played an important role in society. They are the core of every family, the educators and the nurturers, and Poh Kong has always empowered women to be their best selves and live their best lives,” said Elizabeth Choon, Senior Marketing Manager of Poh Kong, during the series’ launch at Le Méridien Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

“This golf series will hopefully not only raise awareness but also much-needed funds that can be reinvested into programmes and activities to further the aims of the Women in Golf Charter. This will show Malaysia as a shining example of what can be achieved by working together towards a good cause.”

The top seven finishers in each of the A, B and C categories in the ladies-only events and the top 10 pairs in the partnership event will receive lucrative prizes and trophies. Each leg will feature a unique lucky draw session using a game of Bingo to decide the winners.

The entry fee is set at RM380 per golfer for members of golf clubs affiliated with the MGA’s Women in Golf Charter and Poh Kong members, and RM480 for all others. The goody bag will include a Poh Kong gold ingot.

Hole-In-One prizes include cash and Titoni timepieces, while a Bull’s Eye contest will be conducted with proceeds going to nominated charity organisations.

MGA Vice President Dato’ Merina Gan, who is also chairman of the association’s Women in Golf Charter, said: “Our mission is clear. To spotlight women on the golf course, to elevate female officials including those in refereeing and course rating, and to acknowledge the role women play in club management. Our dream is of a future where every putt, every swing and every decision in golf resonates with equality and opportunity.”

The Poh Kong Ladies Golf Series is organised by Golf Malaysia, a home-grown media and event management company with a 42-year history.
