Hue, Vietnam: Prize winners at the 17th Faldo Series Asia Grand Final have taken significant upwards strides in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
On the back of their outstanding performances at the Sir Nick Faldo Signature Course at Laguna Lang Co on Vietnam’s Central Coast last week, category winners Coby Carruthers (Boys’ Under-21), Nguyen Trong Hoang (Boys’ Under-16), Nana Fujiwara (Girls’ Under-21) and Lee Su-min (Girls’ Under-16) have all soared in the WAGR.
Carruthers, who became the first Australian winner of the overall championship, has improved his standing by 83 spots to 560th. Following his victory in Vietnam, the 21-year-old Sydneysider said he’d be turning professional this month having gained playing rights on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
With his success in the Boys’ Under-16 category, Trong Hoang underlined his status as one of Vietnam’s brightest young golfing prospects. He also elevated his position in the WAGR by 79 spots to a career-best 898th.
In the women’s rankings, Japan’s Fujiwara has been catapulted 260 places to 2,846th while Korean Lee is up 60 to 265th.
Reflecting the quality of the field at Laguna Lang Co, there were handsome ranking rewards for other Grand Final participants, notably New Zealanders Yuki Miya and Brodie Ferguson and Vietnam’s Nguyen Khanh Linh.
Edged out by Carruthers at the first hole of a sudden-death play-off, Miya has reached a career-high 390th, up 24, while Ferguson, third in the Boys’ Under-21 segment and joint seventh overall, went up 186 spots to 2,457th.
One of the most eye-catching performances last week came from 13-year-old Khanh Linh. With her third-place finish in the Girls’ Under-16 division she has rocketed 250 places in the WAGR to 1,592nd.
